OSU Research Vessel
HVAC & Refrigeration | OSU Research Vessel
We are proud to announce that LeBlanc & Associates has been awarded the contract to supply the HVAC system for the OSU Research Vessel, Oregon State University’s new oceanographic research vessel. Gulf Island Shipyards, LLC will build this vessel for OSU as part of a major scientific initiative.
Oregon State University recently received a $121.88 million grant from the National Science Foundation to spearhead the construction of a new class of research vessels for the United States Academic Research Fleet. The first vessel will operate under OSU and support research missions focusing on the U.S. West Coast. This new class of modern, well-equipped ships is essential to advance studies in marine physical, chemical, biological, and geologic processes in coastal waters. Moreover, these vessels will provide the scientific capacity needed for a deeper understanding of our changing oceans.
LeBlanc & Associates will deliver the HVAC system, mechanical ventilation, and provision cooling for the vessel. Additionally, we are prioritizing the reduction of vibration, airborne noise, and underwater radiated noise to ensure the accurate performance of sensitive scientific instruments onboard.
To enhance energy efficiency, the HVAC system will also incorporate an engine waste heat recovery system to support the vessel’s heating load. As a result, the ship will benefit from both improved sustainability and overall performance.
